Traveling By Air
Trivhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu is the only international airport in Nepal. There are direct flights to Kathmandu from Amsterdam, London, Vienna., Moscow, Munich, Vienna, Abu Dhabi, Dha, Dubai, Karachi, Islambad, New Delhi, Mumbai, Patna, Varanasi, Kolkata, Paro, Dhaka, Lhasa, Bankok, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Osaka. Charter flights can also be arranged for large movements. All flights feature business class and amenities of international standards. Many a time, the Captain offers a guided sight-seeing of the Himalayas for no extra charge ! Airfares fluctuate with the changes in exchange rates and are to be paid in foreign currency by foreign national. Only Nepalese and Indian national are permitted to pay in rupees for air passage between Nepal and India. Departure flight tickets should be reconfirmed three days in advance to avoid inconveniences by possible flight cancellation or changes in the flight schedule. Overweight luggage charges are levied in foreign exchange.
Traveling by Road
Besides the Tribhuvan International Airport in kathmandu, there are five official entry points to Nepal: Biratnagar, Birgunj, Kodari (on the Chinese border), Bhairahawa ( near Sunauli), and Kakarbhitta which connects Nepal with Darjeeling, Sikkim and Siliguri, Birgunj in the most popular entry point for visitors. Entry into Lhasa through Kodari is possible for visitors who possess a special visa for Tibet from the Chinese Embassy. In Nepal motor vehicles are driven on the left side of the road. All driven should possess a license.
Domestic Air Service:
There is an extensive network of air services in the interior of Nepal. Nepal Airlines (NA) has scheduled connection flights from Kathmandu to Taplejung, Bhadrapur, Rajbiraj, Bhojpur, Phaplu, Lukla, Lamidanda, Tunmlingtar, Rumjatar, Biratnagar Simara, Janakpur, Ramechhap, Bharatpur, Meghauli ,Pokhara, Jomsom, Manang, Baglung. Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj Chaurjhahari, Surkhet, Dang, Dolpa, Jumla, Bajura, Baitadi, Dipayal, Darchula, Mahendranagar, Dhangadi, Tikapur and Sanfebagar. Besides Nepal Airlines, there are other domestic airlines such as Buddha Air, Sita Air Yeti Airways and Agni Air providing regular and charter services to popular domestic destinations.
You can easily get a taxi recognized by the taxi sign and black number plates. There is also an arrangement of a Night Taxi Service operated by major hotels. You can also rent a private car through a travel agent or a car rental company.
Many buses, minibuses and microbuses are available at Ratna Park (old Bus Park) that operates to various destinations in the valley. Also safa tempos running on electric power (battery) are available in Kathmandu. Long distance day or night bus services are available from Kathmandu to all cities of Nepal. Special tourist bus services to a limited number of destinations like Pokhara and Chitwan are also accessible.
Hired Mountain Bike / Ordinary Bicycle:
You can hire Mountain bikes and ordinary bicycles cheaply which is one of the best forms of transportation for economy tourists. You can hire them at Thamel, Rani Pokhari and Jhochhen.
